Mid-Missouri Meet Up

Many of you may know we do an annual “Family Friendly” drive to somewhere in Central Missouri to meet our cohorts from the right side of the state (i.e. the Gateway Chapter out of St. Louis and surrounding bedroom communities).  In 2014 we went to the old Missouri State Penitentiary in Jefferson City.  The year before that found us at the Clydesdale Breeding Farm in Boonville.

This year we are planning to go to the town of Marceline.   Perhaps you have not heard of Marceline, much less know where it is - or why it's famous.  Marceline is in north central Missouri, just off of US-36 about 110 miles east of Kansas City. It's a notable place because Walt Disney spent his formative years there and has said Marceline provided the inspiration for his "Main Street" in Disneyland and Disney World.  The town is full of Disney memorabilia, featuring a Walt Disney Hometown Museum.  It is a fascinating place to learn about Disney history.

The date picked for the 2015 “Mid Missouri Meet-Up” (September 19th) turns out that day is the annual "Toon Fest" in Marceline!  The organizers of the fest have invited us to roll our Volvos in their parade which kicks off the festival. They will also provide us with prominent parking along Main Street to show off our cars. You can read about Toon Fest here:

We will also visit and tour the Disney Hometown Museum and avail ourselves of other family friendly events at the Fest and meals at the Knights of Columbus Hall.

The Gateway Chapter has already expressed great interest in this jaunt and I hope our club can match their enthusiasm and attendance.

Marceline is about an hour and 45 minutes drive from the Kansas City metro area, which will translate to a 7:15am departure time for those who wish to be in the parade (they want us there to assemble by 9:30am). We'll work out the “Convoy” logistics later as the date approaches.

I hope you can join us on this trip. Please RSVP  to me by AUGUST 15 so that we can get our count in to the parade organizers.
